Truly Peters Obituary

Truly Mae Williams Peters was born on August 12, 1945, to the union of Elva Mae Newsome Williams and Ezell Williams Sr. in New Hebron, Mississippi.

Truly Mae Williams-Peters received her formal education in 1963 at George Washington Carver High School. She furthered her education at Grambling State University.

She later married Jewel Peters and from their union their two sons,

Calvin K. Peters Sr. and Alvin P. Peters were born.

Truly also acquired her certificate as a cosmetologist with 20 + years experience. She also worked at Ochsner Hospital as a ward clerk for 10 years and retired in 2006 due to Hurricane Katrina.

Truly Peters accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age and was united with Caffin Avenue Church of God of New Orleans, La. under Pastor George W. Burns and Pastor Victor J. Simon. After Katrina in 2006 Caffin Avenue Church of God merged with First Church of God becoming Power House Church of God in Metairie, La. Truly served faithfully as an usher and was a vital part of the kitchen ministry.

Truly was also a member of the Lower 9th Ward Senior Citizen Center from 2012- 2021 prior to moving to Abbeville, La. to reside with her son, Alvin and daughter in love, Nina.

Truly was known for her wonderful cooking and baking skills. She was best known for her homemade cakes and pecan candy. She loved the color red and was always ready to watch her favorite NFL team the New Orleans Saints.

Truly was preceded in death by her husband Jewel Peters, her parents, Elva Mae Newsome-Williams and Ezell Williams, Sr., grandparents, Mary and Tom Newsome and a brother Wade Curtis Williams.

Truly leaves behind to cherish her memory her two sons,

Calvin K. Peters, Sr. (Valerie) and Alvin P. Peters (Nina) her grandchildren Gavin J. Peters (Jennifer) Dana M. Johnson,

Calvin K. Peters, Jr. Danielle J. Duncan (Karnell) and great- grandchildren, Kinsleigh O. Scott, Kyndall O. Scott, Gabrielle R. Peters, Gianna R. Peters Kali Peters, Kash Peters, godchildren Dana Gabriel and Brian McGowan and cousins Mary W. Russell and Susie V. Moore who were like sisters to her as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
