Rosemary Fabre, affectionately known to many as Mama, Grandma, and Momo, was born Rosemary Alexander on February 12, 1938, to the late Gilda Ruth Davenport Alexander and Otis Alexander Sr. She was a lifelong resident of Covington, Louisiana.
Rosemary was a gentle yet strong presence whose life reflected her deep faith, natural grace, and unwavering devotion to her family. She worked many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, a role that suited her servant’s heart and natural gift for caregiving. Whether tending to patients, raising children, or watering her favorite rose bushes and ivy plants, Rosemary cared for everything and everyone with tenderness and pride.
In addition to her work as a CNA, she also served in janitorial roles, which aligned perfectly with her love for cleanliness, order, and excellence. A woman of great dignity, Rosemary was known for keeping a neat and tidy home, her polished appearance, and her attentiveness to children. Her nurturing spirit left a lasting impression on the many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren she helped raise and care for.
She faithfully served on the Stewardess Board at Doughty Chapel AME Church for over 20 years.
She was a woman of great wisdom, often reminding her family of what truly mattered:
“Always love your mama.”
“Keep God in your heart.”
“You gotta have love in your heart.”
She loved gardening, always had a green thumb, and could be found carefully tending to her hedges, monkey grass, roses, and beloved plants. She saw beauty in small things, and her faith ran deep. She was always praying, always trusting, always believing.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, Gilda Ruth Davenport Alexander and Otis Alexander Sr., her beloved daughter, Frenchinette Fabre Williams, and her siblings Otis Alexander, Jr., Rudolph Alexander, Yvonne Crockett, Patricia Burton, Freddie Joe Alexander, and Brenda Jackson.
She leaves behind two loving sons: Aaron Fabre Sr. (Sharon) and Douglas Fabre, along with a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will continue to carry her legacy in their hearts. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and loved ones who were dear to her heart.
Her surviving siblings include Ruth M. Garrett, Zora Lee Abbott, Carol Johnson, Linda Baham, and Willa Mae Bradford.
Rosemary’s life was a living testimony of faith, love, and quiet strength. She bloomed with grace and left beauty wherever she grew.
