With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Rolando Gonzalez III, age 48, affectionately known as Roly, on August 2, 2024, in Slidell, Louisiana. Roly was born on MacDill Airforce Base and spent most of his life in the Tampa Bay Area, where he was a dedicated cook in various kitchens, delighting many with his culinary skills.
Roly spent the past four years residing in Broussard, Louisiana, where he temporarily resided with his Uncle Omar Gonzalez (Susan Gonzalez) and Aunt Iraida Gonzalez. He made lasting friendships with his work family who encouraged him through his illness until the end. His journey came to a peaceful close in Slidell, LA, surrounded by his close family and the comfort of Jesus.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Gloria Cecilia Middaugh. Roly's memory will be cherished by his father, Rolando Gonzalez Jr.; stepfather, Brian Middaugh; sister, Erin Abitha Blackwell (Jason Blackwell); sister, Amanda Gonzalez Villemarette (Clay Villemarette); sister, Jennifer Ann Gonzalez; and brother, Troy Anthony Gonzalez.
Roly was a beloved uncle to nephews Gage Ray Blackwell, Noah Alexander Solana, Kohl Jason Blackwell, Michael Pryce O'Shaughnessy, Nolan James Villemarette and nieces Paisley Grace O'Shaughnessy, Lena Jean Thurman, and Emmy Grey Thurman. He is also survived by aunts Edith Parra and Margarita Conde, cousins Emily, Judy, Jaqueline, Clinton, Rodrigo, and Eddie as well as extended family from the east coast to the west coast, who will miss his kindness and optimistic approach to life.
Roly's life was marked by his dedication to his work, his love for his family, and his sweet spirit. He will be remembered for his contagious laughter and the joy he brought to those around him. Rest in peace, Roly. We love you.
In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. His immediate family will honor his final requests privately. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to Giving Hope Retreat in Lacombe, LA. Your support and generosity in his memory are greatly appreciated.
