It is with deep sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Michael J. Rooney Jr., age 75, on December 20, 2024. Mike was born on November 17, 1949 in New Orleans, the beloved son of Michael J. Rooney and Lita Gravois Rooney.
Mike was a Catholic whose faith guided him throughout his life. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be remembered for his ability to connect with others through his stories, humor, and charismatic nature.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Jennifer) Rooney, Kara (David) Ostendorf, David (Amanda) Rooney and Diana Rooney; his adored grandchildren, Madaline, Rebecca, Michael, Ava, Lia, Seth, Owen, Liam, and Neil; his siblings, Patrick (Anita) Rooney and Marylee Rooney; and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. He is predeceased by his parents, and his sisters, Laurie Stubbs and Beth Hart.
Mike lived his life boldly and with a resilient spirit, embracing its challenges with courage and an open heart. Mike found joy in life’s simple pleasures and taught those around him the value of perseverance, laughter, and compassion. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, golfing, and cheering for his favorite football team, the Saints. His life serves as a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the enduring power of love and forgiveness.
Michael J. Rooney Jr. will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
