McArthur Dawson was born on July 10, 1946, to Leamon and Willie Mae Dickerson Dawson in Magnolia, Mississippi. He was the sixth of twelve children: Ethel Mae Dawson Hall, Justina Dawson Harper, JC Dawson, Leamon Dawson Jr., Alonzo Dawson, Emma Jean Dawson Byrd, Barbara Dawson Carter, Ruby Lee Dawson Gross, Geraldine Dawson Cockerham, and Dr. Robert Earl Dawson and Matthew Dawson.
A Time to be Educated
McArthur received his formal education at John H. Martyn High School in Jefferson, LA. He furthered his education in automotive repair at Jefferson Vocational Technical Community College in Metairie, Louisiana.
A Time to Be Progressive
McArthur’s professional career included working as a diesel mechanic at Mid-West Machinery,
Coca-Cola Company, A&P Warehouse, and Matlock Diesel.
A Time to Enjoy Life
McArthur enjoyed spending time with family and friends and sharing his many fond memories and philosophies of life. McArthur was one who enjoyed nature—from fishing, hunting, and shrimping, to raising and training doves, horseback riding with the Buffalo Soldiers, and gardening. His selflessness made him a friend and confidant to many throughout the community.
A Time to Love
McArthur married Kathlyn Francois, and from this union were born four sons: Timothy, Heath, Nicolas, and Marcus. He later married Gail Bellazer, and born to that union were Makesha and Duntez. McArthur was also the loving father to Quincy Wilson, Myasia Dawson, and Taylor Dawson.
A Time to Rejoice
McArthur accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 1974 at Little Zion Baptist Church in Kenner, Louisiana, under the leadership of the late Reverend Arthur Paul Clay Sr.
A Time to Die
On April 7, 2025, McArthur answered the heavenly call and went home to be with his Lord and Savior. He was preceded in death by his parents: mother Willie Mae Dickerson-Dawson, father Leamon Dawson Sr.; siblings: Justina Dawson-Harper, Leamon Dawson Jr., Emma Jean Dawson-Byrd, Ruby Lee Dawson-Gross, and
Matthew Dawson; sons: Heath McArthur Dawson, Duntez Shawn Dawson, and Marcus Alexis Dawson. He leaves to cherish his memory three sons: Timothy (Shawn), Nicolas, and Quincy;and three daughters: Makesha Dawson, Myasia Dawson, and Taylor Dawson; eleven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
