Lindalean Mildred Dawson Garrett was born on May 1, 1950, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Frank and Eretta Thomas Dawson. Linda received her formal education in the St. Tammany and Washington Parish School System. She completed Pine View High in Covington, LA.
On November 4, 1995, Linda united in marriage to Deacon Charles Garrett Sr. for 26 wonderful years. Together, they built a loving life and raised their beautiful children in Folsom, LA.
Linda was known as “Mama,” “Nuh,” “Ma,” “Momo,” and “Memaw” to her children and grandchildren. She was a wife, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, an aunt, but most of all she was a “Child of God.”
Linda enjoyed studying God’s word daily! She looked forward to Wednesday night's prayer meeting and Bible Study, Sunday School, and Sunday morning worship service. She was a dedicated and hardworking woman, often working multiple jobs to provide for her family. She was a talented cook who loved sharing her meals with others and showcasing her culinary skills in several restaurants throughout the Covington area, such as Mr. G’s Soulfood, Big Joe’s Seafood, Pat’s Seafood, and retired from Sweet Daddy’s BBQ in 2016 following the heartbreaking loss of her beloved daughter, “Keke.”
Linda accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was united with Holmeville Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served under the leadership of Rev. Richard Brumfield, Rev. Herbert Brown, Dr. Rev. Calvin Jackson Sr., Pastor Michael Jackson, and present Pastor David Williams. Throughout her years of dedicated service, Linda wore many hats within the church ministry. She served as President of the Deaconess Board, a member on the Usher Board and Women’s Mission, a Sunday School Teacher, Kitchen Manager, and former Sunday School Superintendent. Her final and most cherished role was serving as a door greeter, where she welcomed everyone with warmth and kindness and her beautiful smile.
Linda leaves to cherish her memories her sons: Darren Dawson of Covington, LA, Mark Dawson of Tampa, FL, and Charles Garrett Jr. (Michelle) of Dalton, GA; her devoted daughter, Tysha D. Clark(DeMario) of Folsom, LA; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, one grand dog, one sister, Janell Garrett, a brother-in-law, Sidney Garrett Jr. of Hammond, LA, a nephew, Peter Varnado, and four nieces, Brenda Price, Bridget Garrett, Angela Garrett, Nicey Callahan, and one Goddaughter, Jaiven Garrett, as well as her special friends, Joanne Batiste, Patricia Brumfield, Connie Penn, and Francis Brumfield, and a host of relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Charles Garrett Sr.; her parents, Eretta and Frank Dawson; her youngest daughter, Keandra Morgan; one sister, Sedonia Varnado; one niece, Lillia Martin; two stepsons, John Paul Garrett and Corey Lee Garrett; and one granddaughter, Quisha Briggs.
