Joyce Cousin Obituary

Joyce May Tamper Cousin was born on September 27, 1944, to the cherished union of Shelly Newkirt and Hettie Amos in Slidell, Louisiana. She attended Alton Jr. High and St. Tammany High School. Joyce embarked on a lifelong journey of love on August 9, 1962, as she entered into holy matrimony with Felton J. Cousin Sr. Their blessed union was adorned with the joy of six children.

Throughout her life, Joyce dedicated herself to various jobs, including in-home private sitting, a housekeeper at Guest House and Greenbrier Nursing Home, as well as working in the cafeteria at St. Tammany School Board.

Sister Joyce Tamper Cousin accepted Christ at an early age, was baptized under the leadership of A.W. Henry, and was a faithful servant of the Lord. She found joy in nurturing her garden of flowers, making delectable meals, and sewing with love. Her gumbo was a beloved treasure among many, and she loved spending as much time as she could with her family and friends.

The memories of Joyce will be forever cherished by her beloved daughter, Alanda D.C. (Joseph) Williams; her sons, Felton J. Cousin, Jr., Dwayne (Leslie) Cousin, and Derrick Cousin; her devoted sister, Audrey Clark; and those she lovingly embraced as her own, including Tevin Cousin, David Wilson, Rachel Price, Corey Robinson, Tracy McMooian, Devin McMooian, Derrick Bell, and “Dippy.” Her 10 grandchildren and her 35 great-grandchildren; her two special friends who were dedicated to her, Wanda Dolliole and Sonja Williams; her three sisters-in-law, Carolyn (Marvin) Kaigle, Lesha (Tootie) Brown, and Betty Cousin; and her two brothers-in-law, Vernell J. Cousin and Calvin A. Cousin all of Slidell, LA.

Joyce departed this Earth in the evening hours of July 23, 2025. Joyce heard her Master’s call, took His hand, and began her journey to the Promised Land. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Shelly Newkirt and Hettie Amos; her dear husband, Felton J. Cousin, Sr.; her two brothers, Norvell Kelly and Robert Kelly, Jr.; her sister, Dorothy Kelly Johnson; her two sons, Roderick J. Cousin and Gregory Cousin; and her three grandsons, Tevin Cousin, Jeremy Wilson, and Dwayne C. Wilson. Her legacy of love and faith will forever illuminate the hearts of those who knew her.
