Josie Coleman Obituary

Sister Josie Nell Coleman, God saw you were getting tired, so he did what he thought was best. He came and stood beside you and whispered, “Come and take your rest”. You bade no farewell, not even a goodbye, then you were gone before we knew it, and God only knows why.

Sister Josie Nell Coleman departed this earthly life on  August 7, 2019, in West Jefferson Medical Hospital. She was born February 21, 1948, in Carlisle, Mississippi. Baptized at an early age, later to fellowship at Rock of Ages Baptist Church until the Father called her home. Josie lived in Marrero, Louisiana most of her life, but  after  attending school in Utica, Mississippi, before residing in New Orleans, to become employed as a Surgical Technician at West Jefferson Hospital for 43 years. Josie was a free spirited, humbled souled woman whom she showed her caring nature to many she encountered. Josie was and avid sports fan who loved her “New Orleans Saints”. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, dancing, and family time. Josie loved to volunteer her time to whatever the cause may have been. In the later stages of her life, Josie volunteered her time at the Marrero Senior Center, again showing her love for helping others.

Josie leaves to cherish many loving memories, her son Bryan (Chantell) Jones; five grandchildren: Milton (Killra) Johnson, Marquise Davis, Ire’yion Jones, Treasure and Earlaysia Jones; two great-grandchildren: Kayton Johnson and John H. Thompson, III.; three sisters; Mary Coleman Hinkle, Lottie (Donald) Russey of Rockford,   Illinois; and Selena Bonaparte (William) of Evans, Georgia; two brothers; Charlie Coleman, Jr. of  Utica, Mississippi and Stanley (Tracy) Coleman of Marrero,  Louisiana; and a host  of nieces, nephews, one sister in law (Barbara George Coleman), one brother in law (Melvin Newsome), other relatives and friends. She was preceded in  death by her parents: Charlie and Vella Coleman; two sisters: Pearlie Coleman and Rosie Newsome; one brother Levi Coleman, Sr.; and two children: Rosa Jones-Davis and Earl Jones.

There are many to whom Josie held close to her heart. She enjoyed family, food, and fun. The life of the party was just a tip of the sword for her, with a cunning enjoyment for music. Miss Josie was a true influential community mother to many neighborhood kids around the area.  Spending countless hours and time as an avid booster club member, which involved showing local kids love outside of her children. She loved supporting her children, even the many she called her own, in everything they did. From ball games, to life situations in which a mother could only do. Josie was called mom by countless amounts of kids, just to only become adults and remember who and what she stood for. Her old school parenting guided some in ways, to where they are doing what they saw she did for her kids. She will be missed by so many, because of the heart in which GOD had given her.
