It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Francie Mae Wilson Washington, who departed this world on May 7, 2026. Born on September 25, 1952, in Greenwood, Mississippi, to James Vernon Wilson and Fannie Mae Lewis, Francie was a cherished soul whose life was marked by love, dedication, and faith.
Francie embarked on her professional journey by earning her Certified Nursing Assistant certification in the early 1980s. Her career was a testament to her compassion, as she devoted many years to caring for others at the Pontchartrain Nursing Centre and later at Lacombe Nursing Home, where she eventually retired. Her unwavering commitment to her work and her patients left an indelible mark on those she served.
In her personal life, Francie was blessed with a profound love story. She married the love of her life, Jessie Lee Washington, and their union spanned a remarkable 39 years. Together, they built a life filled with joy and companionship. Francie made her home in St. Tammany Parish for over 60 years.
From a young age, Francie embraced her faith and accepted Christ into her life. She found joy in simple pleasures, such as playing cards, dancing, and spending precious moments with her family. Her laughter and love were the threads that wove her family together.
Francie's memory will be forever cherished by her beloved daughters, Naomi Wilson and Anita Wilson, and her son, Willie Wilson. She was a proud grandmother to Briana Carter, Troy Henry, and Elronay Martin, and a loving great-grandmother to Celais Barnes and Byron Carter. Her brothers, Milton Brown and Leon Brown, will continue to hold her memory dear.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband, Jessie Lee Washington; her parents, James Vernon Wilson and Fannie Mae Lewis; her foster mother, Bennie Smith; her grandparents, Leon Wilson and Josie Wilson; her grandchildren, Leona Wilson and De’Angelo Butler, and her sisters, Katie Richardson and Josie Brown.
Though she is no longer with us, her legacy of love and compassion will forever illuminate the hearts of those who knew her. As we gather to celebrate Francie's life, we remember her not only for the roles she fulfilled, but for the love she shared with everyone around her. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
