The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
Our Heavenly Father called Clarice Elizabeth Bates Andrews from earthly labor to heavenly rest on Sunday, December 17, 2023, at her home in Abita Springs, LA.
Clarice was born October 13,1928 to the late Wade and Andonia (Annie) Bates. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at St. Paul Baptist Church in Hammond, LA under the leadership of the late Rev. Burns. Later, she moved to Covington, LA. She joined Doughty Chapel A.M.E. Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Lucius. At Doughty Chapel, Clarice was an active member of the Senior Choir and served on the Pastor's Aide Committee. In high school, Clarice was an avid player on the basketball team. She graduated from Covington Rosenwald High School.
Later, she married Ellis Andrews. To this union four children were born: Jerome, Marilyn, Mary Frances, and Gary. Clarice was employed at St. Tammany Hospital in Covington, LA as a Custodian Supervisor until she retired. Clarice had a sweet and gentle spirit. Her love for God and her family was a reflection of how she treated others. God blessed her with two Christian Rap songs as an adult; and everywhere she went, she would gladly share this blessing with those who stopped, listened, and enjoyed her unique Scriptural singing.
Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, Wade and Andonia (Annie) Bates; a brother, Isaiah (nickname Son) Bates; four sisters: Ella Sheridan, Doris Watts, Lillie Berry, Victoria Hendricks, and one son, Jerome Andrews. She leaves to cherish her loving memory: two daughters, Marilyn Robinson of Covington, LA and Mary Frances Jamison of Columbus, OH; one son, Gary Andrews, (Gaynell) of Covington, LA; one brother Joseph Bates of Denver, CO; two sisters: Joyce James of Covington, LA and Catherine Ingram of Inglewood, CA, a host of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends.
