Charlene Marie Owens-Martin, aged 59, was born on July 16, 1965, to the union of Katie and Titus Owens in Slidell, Louisiana. She completed her formal education at Salmen High School, graduating in 1982. Charlene was employed at National Supermarket, Walgreens, and Shucky Duckys and she was affectionately known as everyone’s favorite candy lady.
From a young age, Charlene embraced her faith, accepting Christ as her Savior and becoming a member of Little Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she actively participated in the youth choir. Known for her vibrant personality, she was an unofficial DJ, had a passion for the color blue, and was a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints. Her remarkable sense of humor made her the life of every gathering.
Charlene is survived by her beloved children: Tameeca Owens, Titus Owens, Katie Owens (Kenny), and Brandon Owens (Sade). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Makayla Nelson, Samiyah Thornton,
Charon Owens, Landon Owens, Legend Owens, and Zai’leigh Owens. Additionally, she is remembered by her brothers, Curtis Owens, Sr. (Tawnya) and Karl Owens, Sr. (Tiffany), her sister Luanda Owens, and her dear friends Waketa Brister, Fredricka Gibson, Dedra Dupree, Wanda Denson, and
Felicia Jackson. Charlene also leaves behind a host of cousins, including Veronica Lewis Brown, Eric Crawford, Gilda Crawford,
Ticia Twillie, Sheila Crawford, and Dareen Crawford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Katie and Titus Owens; her grandparents, Sevilla and Bill Crawford; and her spouse, Edward Nelson.
