Beth Sheppard Turkin passed away peacefully on October 14, 2025, with her family by her side.
Beth was born on July 28, 1956, in New Orleans to Charles and Nettie Sheppard. At age seven,
her family settled in Lacombe, Louisiana, where she would make her home for the rest of her
life.
Beth had a big heart and a fiery wit, a steady strength on the outside but a deeply sensitive soul
within. She was crafty and creative, always bringing an artistic touch to school projects and
celebrations. She had a soft spot in her heart for all animals and even carried treats in her car
for the neighborhood dogs! She was a great listener and a protector of those she loved, quick to
lend a hand, a prayer, or an open heart.
She was known for her kindness, generosity, and fierce loyalty. She gave of herself every single
day, adopting children in need at Christmas, welcoming her grandchildren with open arms
whenever they needed her, and always putting the needs of others before her own. She was a
quiet warrior through life’s most difficult trials, standing by her loved ones with love, hope, and
prayer even when the road was hard.
Her faith was her sanctuary. She loved God with all her heart and found joy and peace in her
Redemption Church family and Bible study. In her later years, she devoted her life to serving
Him, embodying unconditional love and grace in all that she did.
She is survived by her husband, Douglas Turkin, and her two daughters, Randi Turkin (Collin)
and Kelly Turkin (Amber), as well as her three grandchildren, Olivia Turkin, Aiden Faye, and
Julien Whiting, her sister Carolyn Opsal (Steve), brother Scott Sheppard (Melissa), and
numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles
and Nettie Sheppard, and brothers Chuck Sheppard and Jeff Sheppard.
A service to honor her life will be held on Tuesday, October 28th at 10:00AM at Redemption
Church (62060 LA-434, Lacombe, LA) with repast following immediately until 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Redemption Church and/or the Northshore
Humane Society, or simply asks that friends and loved ones carry her legacy forward by
practicing kindness and unconditional love, just as she did.
Her family and friends will forever remember her as a woman of faith, strength, and boundless
love — a mother and friend whose presence made the world brighter.
