Bessie Mae Bridges

Bessie passed peacefully from this life the morning of May 23rd after a gradual decline in health.  She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during the last days of her life.  Bessie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Chester and Izola Melone.  She was a resident of Slidell, Louisiana.  Bessie received her formal education at St. Tammany High School and was a proud graduate of the Class of 1969.  In 1985, she married Charles W. Bridges.

Bessie was a Certified Nursing Assistant and cleaned houses.  She accepted Christ and united with the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church where she served as an usher.  She loved playing bingo and watching the New Orleans Saints.

Bessie is survived by her husband, Charles W. Bridges;  her daughter, Gizelle Malone, Slidell, LA and two stepchildren; Daphine Williams, Daytona FL and Nicolas Williams, MS., her grandchild, Tyrese Hopkins; her brother; Sylvester “Mancy” Melone (Dottie), Los Angeles, CA and her her sister; Andrea Malone; (4) sister-in-laws; Letha (H.B. Bryant), Mary Bell, Peggy (Alvin) Jones and Doris Brent; a brother-in-law, Jerry (Nicole Parnell); and (4) godchildren, Toney Melone, Paul Melone, Siobhan Ricks and Brandy Hopkins.

Bessie is preceded in death by: her parents, Chester and Izola Melone, her siblings; Estella, Virginia, Chester, Ira and Eric; her mother-in-law, Lillie B. Green and (2) brother-in-laws, Robert Crumdey and Clifton Green, Jr.
