Audrey Ducre McGary, on the morning of Monday, November 28, 2022 at the seasoned age of 86, she joined her ancestors, daughter, siblings and friends in heaven.
Although she was born and raised in Lacombe, Louisiana, she lived her adult life in New Orleans, and returned to her roots in Lacombe, Louisiana after her retirement. She was born on April 15, 1936 as the sixth child of Sydney and Sanora LaChaux Ducre. She received her education from Martindale School in Lacombe.
Audrey began her new lifelong calling in New Orleans, Louisiana at a young age as a homemaker, devoted, nurturing and loving mother to her six children. Prior to becoming a dedicated employee of one of her good friends, Areme K. Marks, she was an employee of Delgado Community College.
Family and friends knew her as a dutiful caregiver for many of the sick in her family. She was also known for her culinary skills. Guests who dropped in or were part of a planned gathering were always assured of a good hot Creole meal, particularly her legendary red beans and rice. In addition, she enjoyed shopping, attending church, reading her bible and most importantly spending time with her family.
Upon Audrey’s retirement in her hometown of Lacombe, Louisiana, she happily settled into her new church home at the Living Word Assembly of Lacombe.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Janice McGary Spencer, four brothers, Elmo, Gussie, Sydney, Casmer and two sisters, Cordella and Gloria.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children David (Sidra) McGary, of Florida Sheron McGary of Louisiana, Gwendolyn McGary of Georgia, Wanda Sue (Robert) Monroe of Texas, Cheyvone (Melvin) Patterson of Louisiana and her bonus child, Maxwell Sam Marks of Louisiana. Four brothers, Charlie Flot (Nelda), of New York; Murlin (Poochie) Ducre, Samuel (Loretta) Ducre, Donald Ducre one sister, Hope Reimonenq and one sister-in-law, Alzola Ducre of Louisiana. Fourteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, six great, great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, church members and good friends, Betsy Green, Elaine Chaney, Peggy Pearson, Theresa Schneider and Nina Davies.
